PLANNING: Which institution/studio will distribute our film?

WHAT IS AN IDENTS?
An idents is an animated or short visual image to introduce an institution that has distributed the media that follows. They usually come before a film or a show and link to the genre of the film it is introducing, often identifying a brand image or brand ideologies.

INSPIRATION FOR OUR OWN FILM: IDENTS

Blumhouse productions is a production company that releases lots of horrors. Although the idents is more linked to the horror genre than thriller, we can draw inspiration from the idents, including the dark lighting, shadows and camera movements in order to make a tense and interesting ident which will reveal the genre and general tone of the title sequence we will create.

New Line Cinema is an institution renowned for distributing thrillers. Some examples of the films it has distributed include 'Se7en' and 'The Final Destination'. The genre of thriller is indicated through the simple yet dark idents. The different variations show how an institution can change parts of their idents, for example the sound, to further indicate the genre and tone of the film they are introducing. The 'Time Travellers Wife' idents uses slow violin music to suggest tragedy and heartbreak, whereas 'The Final Destination' uses tense, eerie sound effects to parallel the text 'New Line Cinema' gradually moving forward towards the viewer.

WHAT BRAND IMAGE WILL WE PORTRAY THROUGH OUR IDENTS?
We want our brand identity to be innovative, creative, daring, exciting and thrilling. This will link to the type of genre we aim to present through our title sequence, thriller. We aim to create something which will suggest mystery, intensity and elicit fear and curiosity from the audience.
