Prelim Evaluation
Task
outline
For our groups
prelim film, we were given a prop and a location we had to include in the short
video. Also including:
With a variation of shot types including:
- Match cut
- Shot/reverse shot
- 180-degree rule
Skills
and teamwork
The prop we were
set to use in the prelim was hazard tape and it was set in the bus. At first it
was slightly difficult to conjure an idea as to what the film was to be about.
We thought to have a shattered glass in the background in the bus. We first
constructed the scene to take pictures to create a storyboard to plan and get
the general idea of the story-line and also the types of camera angles and shot
types we were going to use. In a group of 4, two of use acted and the other two
directed and filmed the video. We then started to film with the amount of time
we had and made sure to use close-ups of the characters’ feet as she walked up
the steps, when she walked across the room. We also (however this is not in the
storyboard) included a close up of one of the characters eyes as she pondered
about the situation. Also Shot reverse shot while the two characters spoke had
a small conversation. Although some scenes were not included in the storyboard
we still decided to include some to ensure we understood the types of shots
used in filming.
What
went well

Improvements
I think ways to
improve our prelim we could have added music and sound effects so we could
prove our understanding of editing and adding sound. If we had more time I feel
like the outcome would have been more successful and a full reflection of our
knowledge. Also I think we could’ve made the film longer and add more scenes
and more shot types. I think that if we had more freedom with our location, I
feel our group would be more successful for the story to make sense.
