Target Audience:
Is a particular group of people (of age/ethnicity/gender etc.) by which a film is aimed at.
Primary: Main audience who have a direct interest in the product.
Secondary: Product not designed for them specifically, but they'll watch the movie to accompany children, friends and family
Tertiary: Slightly interested in product due to something included in it- wouldn't otherwise watch/read it.
Research:
British vs American Movies:
As a result, I've noticed the majority (85%) like American movies as opposed to British movies, with the location of equal liking: House and Forest have been favoured over the other locations- (33%).
Character:
With characters, I've tried to include a small variety of actors that have appeared in many genres of movies to get a more unbiased result.
Evan Peters and Bruce Willis have been equally favoured over the others.
Genre:
Evan Peters has appeared in 'American Horror Story', which is evident in the choice of Thriller being the more popular choice of genre, compared to the rest. 80% of my audience were Female and 16-17 years old; which is a good base for planning the Opening Sequence for my Media Project.
Reasons for chosen genre(s):
Thriller - the sinister and dark tones; with the progressive music and mysterious plots make the audience excited and feel a sense of uneasiness, which is addicting (adrenaline rush).
Action - The upbeat music alongside the dramatised scenes of violence is what grabs the attention.
Choice of genre preference cannot be generalised, as my results show a variety of genre taste; but given that, I've noticed that the older audience wouldn't watch Chick-Flicks, whereas that genre would appeal to females and teenagers as they can identify with the plot and the settings. Other than that, younger audience seek thrill and so Action and Thrillers are a good hit with them, which makes it more of a 50/50 choice with developing my project.
Target Audience: 16-19 years old.
I'd appeal to the younger audience, as my group are also within the ages of 16-17 and so it will be easier to identify with each other's tastes and also from our peers; making us focus on exciting and grabbing the attention through mise-en-scene. Thriller is a good choice and is also my personal favourite, so me and my group will be more motivated and excited to work on that genre.
