A film opening is essentially used to introduce a film and
set the mood and genres explored throughout the film in the first few minutes and introduce the cast and
the crew involved with the production of the film.
SHOWCASING THE CAST AND CREW

Generally this would
promote each person involved with the film.
For the actors, it would create positive association with
certain genres.
For example Harry Potter(the collective series) the is
association with Daniel Radcliffe(although the credits do not get mention till
the very end) is heavily associated with that role and has built up a fan-base
in relation to this certain movie and genre and proven to be notable in his
acting in the film.
BILLING ORDER
The order in which the production and crew come in order is called
the billing order
Usually would have a higher status on the billing order, and
are listed before the title and producer as the actors starring would be a
main reason going to watch the movie rather than the director.
Even in film posters, the actors would appear at the very top.
In most films will rolling the title credits with the cast, towards the end, before the director, "with" and "and" would appear which both mean different things.
"WITH" would introduce an actor with a small part in the movie yet a recognizable name but no longer box office draws.
"AND" would introduce the actors who also don't have a large part of the film, but a big recognizable actor that would make people go "WOW he's in that movie, that means it's going to be GREAT"
for example in the The Dark Knight "and Morgan Freeman" appears at the end.
INSTITUTION
The institution (for example Warner Bros. MGM etc.) would appear
as soon as the film begins, even in trailers to advertise the company and also establish
exceptions, by seeing a well know institution would indicate that it might be on
a big budget, special FX, CGI and include well known actors and more likely to
be successful. The institution logo can differ depending on the mood and genre of
the film
An example of this is Harry Potter(the collective series) and how to Warner Brothers Studio logo has changed through the 11 years of filming and mood set by each book has come to life within the first minute of the movie.
the progession went from blue skies, which would represent slight joy in the film, to black fog and mist to foreshadow the darkness of the film
