RESEARCH: What are the 4 different types of film openings?

The 4 different types of film openings

Over the years tile sequences have evolved in response to the institutional information needed.
Titles on a blank screen, titles on still image, titles over moving images, titles using animation or motion.

Titles on a blank screen
these are the simplest form of film openings and are also the oldest.
A title on a blank screen is used because of :
  • low budget
  • its a simple way of giving out information
  • to introduce a subtle theme for the film
  • white on black creates a contrast

we looked at different title sequences based on this type of film opening.

Psycho:
  • The title screen was very simple
  • Hidden messages as to what was going to happen later on in the movie.
  • The music was used to show the genre of the film
