SOUND
What is sound? sound is anything we hear in elation to the film (diegetic and non-diegetic)
Sound in film is used to establish tone, atmostphere and to help give the audiece clues about the plot , characters and to identify the genre of the film. it is also used to help "suspend belief"(which takes the audience out of reality and forget that the film is constructed and heighten their experience of the film.
Diegetic sound
voices of characters
sounds made by objects in the story
music represented as coming from instruments in the story space
for example that would be (in a silent room, the noises of the cars driving outside or the air conditioning)
Non-diegetic sound
narrator's commentary
sound effects which is added for the dramatic effect
mood music
SOUNDSCAPE
Soundscape is the overall sound environment, what the sound is like as whole throughout the course of the film.
SOUND DESIGN
Sound design is the process of mixing, editing and creating sound for a film.
'SUSPEND DISBELIEF'
a state where the viewer comes out of the reality and forgets the film is constructed and makes the audince a partt og the action.
WILD TRACK
Recorded separately to the film but added onto the final cut
AMBIENT SOUND
Background sound in the scene.
VOICE-OVER
A narrator in the film
DUBBING
A foreign language is 'dubbed'over the original to match the lip movements of the characters lines.
SCORE
Music(a song) written for a film, incorporated with the soundtrack and sound effects.
FOLEY
Sounds recorded to mirroring the events happening the scene, which the microphone hadnt picked up during filming. For example, someone walking down the hallway but the mic wasn't able to emphasise the heel clicking on the floor.
SOUND BRIDGE
Editing the sound which sets a mood and tone
SOUND MOTIF
A combination of music or sound effects that are associated with a particular character, setting or situation.
SYNCHRONOUS
Sound that matches the on-screen action.
ASYNCHRONOUS
Sound that isn't synchronised perfectly the action in the scene.
